This was supposed to be a portrait of a very good friend...however I'm not so sure it looks like her. I'm posting this because...I have no idea whether or not I want to finish it or tear it up. I have no idea what I like anymore.
EDIT: I decided not to tear it up but I'm continually uploading an edited pic because It always seem the values are so far off the original. I'm a perfectionist. sorry for crowding ur devwatch.
*sighs* you are so good at drawing. Any tips for me? I wish I could draw people. Anyhows I like the shading in this one as well as the use of line. I love the eyes.
Thank you Loren! There really are no tips for drawing people...I think the only thing I can pass along is to be patient and to draw what you see...not what you think you see. It's all really just a measurement of angles...either with a pencil or drawing utensil or visually. So if you drew an eye...you would use that one eye to check your proportions against. When I first got serious about art...this website helped me out a lot...[link]
The shading...is that way because I don't see any purpose to smooth it out so it looks photorealistic...I think it looks better that way. And the linework...I think I picked up from drawing comic book characters. Anyway...I think I've come across a style I'm comfortable with. And yeah...the eyes...that's the one thing I don't think I got right...but yes...I love them too. Thank you!
Well no...I couldn't really bring myself to tear it up. I've put too much work into it. It doesn't look like who its supposed to but...it is a good peice i think. I like it anyhow. I think I will finish it...although its practically done.
I love it, very thick, defined lines against a sensitive use of shading. I'm usually not a fan of pencil portraits, they usually look all the same, but there is something unique about this. It has your trademark style.

Heh. I WON'T tear it up...even tho...I'm still on the fence about it. One the one hand I do like the style and the way she looks...but on the other hand...it really DOESN'T look like the girl it was supposed to be. Theres something missing. She's too awesome to capture on paper.
Heh. Thanks for the . I was a little dissapointed no one had ed it because...I must admit...I really LOVE it. Didn't realize I had a trademark style. Ok...so I did! It's the bold lines and the shading like u mentioned. Man...I think...someone finally gets it. Awesome...because after many years without my own style...I was really beginning to like this one. Thanks for the kind words. Best thing anyones said to me in a long time. Cheers mate!
I like this style. It could feel washed out because of all the whiteness, but your strong lines and capture of the essence in her pose makes the piece strong and beautiful
Hey! It's interesting that you mentioned it could feel washed out. I've looked at this deviation on like a dozen different computers and realized...that most of them display it pretty brightly. The monitor in my room however displayed it to my liking. I've darkened it a little bit to look better on most of my schools computers, just cause I don't wan't people seeing it portrayed the wrong way. It'll probably way too dark on my PC tho. LAME! I'm gonna look into calibrating my screen better. Thanks for the tho.
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
A Special Collection of photographs i found this month that still haunts my mind. Show them some love There are always some i can`t include due to space, i try to make the features under 50 deviations to give them better exposure
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
